At Kingfisher Labels, we’re a close-knit bunch – and recently, we’ve been mourning one of our own. Three months on from the deeply felt loss of Martin Jackson, the office staff have just completed a 12-mile sponsored trek from Yate to Bristol in his memory. Martin passed away in late June, aged 74.
He was a beloved family man, a company co-founder, and a trusted colleague. He is sorely missed in every capacity. All told, our ambulatory adventure in Martin’s honour took just over four hours.
We started the walk from our factory in Yate and ended up, approximately 12 miles later, outside the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) in central Bristol.
Raising funds for hospitals in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare
In advance of our memory walk, we set up a JustGiving page to fundraise for the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity. At last count, we’ve managed to raise over £4,000 – Still accepting donations. As explained on the page…
“Martins’s chosen charity is the Bristol Heart Institute who raise funds through the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity. It is estimated that over one million people in the UK have heart failure. There are around 200,000 new diagnoses of heart failure every year in the UK. Thanks to the fantastic service and care provided by the Bristol Heart Institute at the BRI we were able to spend another precious year with Martin.”
The money we raised, thanks to massive support from our Kingfisher community, will go toward improving and elevating patient care across the 10 local hospitals that form the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW):
- Bristol Dental Hospital
- Bristol Eye Hospital
- Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre
- Bristol Heart Institute
- Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
- Bristol Royal Infirmary
- Central Health Clinic
- South Bristol Community Hospital
- St Michael’s Hospital
- Weston General Hospital
